Lakes and Lagoons on the Air

LLOTA? Think POTA — just wetter! 💦📡

After Parks on the Air, I’ve fallen hard for my second on-air addiction: Lakes and Lagoons on the Air. The idea is simple and very familiar: throw the rig in the backpack, don’t forget antenna and power, and off you go activating.

With LLOTA it’s water only. No parks, no hills — just lakes, lagoons, and reservoirs. You’re good to operate within 200 meters of the shoreline, from a bridge over the water, or — the real fun part — straight from a boat. /MM (Maritime Mobile) activations are absolutely OK and highly recommended if you like a bit of rocking while calling CQ.

Since LLOTA is still a pretty young program, it’s still growing. That’s why — especially in Germany — there aren’t many references on the map yet. As the Germany Manager, I’m doing my best to change that and get more water on the air.

And here’s the best part: anyone can submit their favorite body of water — and maybe even activate it right away 😉. Just a few clicks on the official website and you’re set.

One small catch: the website is currently Spanish only. That’s why I’ve translated the rules into English and German. Please note that my translations may contain mistakes or might not reflect the very latest updates — when in doubt, the current rules on the official website always apply.

So grab your rig, find some water, and let’s get LLOTA on the bands! CQ LLOTA!
